Coreation – A Visual Exploration of the Impact of Social Media on Fashion and Identity
In today’s digitally interconnected world, technology has profoundly influenced the construction and presentation of personal identities. This visual exploration investigates and critiques the complex and multifaceted impact of social media platforms such as TikTok and Instagram in shaping contemporary curated identity formation and expression, delving into the positive and negative aspects of curated contemporary identities. The two main arguments of this thesis address monoculture and, respectively, metaculture. By exploring individuals in both Cape Town, South Africa, and Zurich, Switzerland, the thesis’ research reveals the extent of the influence of online realms on the physical world.
