Launch «ImaginEd – Ein Brettspiel für die Schule der Zukunft»
The board game «ImaginEd – Ein Brettspiel für die Schule der Zukunft», which was developed by the Subject Area Game Design, is celebrating its launch on 25 October 2025 in Zurich.
Digitalisation confronts schools with various challenges. Work environments and teaching settings are transformed rapidly due to technological progress. As a result, school teams constantly need to acquire new skills - an attitude - to be able to discover and teach a responsible way of using digital tools (e.g. artificial intelligence). Pupils should be enabled to use these technologies reasonably with up-to-date infrastructure.
The simulation game «ImaginEd», which was developed by the Subject Area Game Design in collaboration with Pädagogische Hochschule Zürich, inspired school teams to collectively envision the school of the future, including the digital transformation. Together, the players draw and narrate to create a fictional school of the future. They are asked to play different roles and to react to challenges, risks and opportunities in the context of school and digitalisation from unfamiliar perspectives. In the end, concrete ideas and inspiring inputs gained during the game are collected and possibly transferred to reality.
«The different bases of each school regarding digitalisation were challenging in the design process. This is why we chose an approach inspired by role-playing.», says Stefan Schmidlin who, together with Nija Böckler, designed and realised the game. Storytelling and drawing are at the core of the gameplay. There are neither point nor winners and losers - instead, a collective experience and an exciting story are created. «With the open game design, «ImaginEd» enables all teams to develop a shared attitute - in a decidedly more humorous way than in a dry workshop», says Böckler.
«ImaginEd» is published in October by hep Verlag and can already be pre-ordered here. The game is available in specialist retailers in Switzerland, Germany and Austria as well as directly at hep Verlag.
The launch event will take place on 25 October 2025, from 4pm, in Zurich. If you are interested in attending, please contact us here. We would be glad to have the opportunity to invite your personally.
