Viral TikTok project honoured with Eyes & Ears Award
The semester project "Leben am Limmat" is awarded the gold trophy in the category "Best Social Media Campaign" by the industry association Eyes & Ears of Europe.
Ten students of Cast / Audiovisual Media produced a cross-platform multimedia project on the topic of housing shortage and gentrification in the city of Zurich between November 2021 and January 2022. On the one hand, they created the short documentary "Leben am Limmat" (Life on the Limmat) and a multi-part campaign on TikTok, narrated by the fictional character Lorena.
Lorena's dramatic story about the end of her relationship, losing her flat and moving into the Toni-Areal was told in serial videos on TikTok. The story was touching and fascinating, so that the TikToks reached more than 1.6 million views and 165,000 likes. Lorena's production not only sparked controversy among the audience on TikTok, but also met with international media response.
The 13-minute short documentary was released at the same time as Lorena's story broke. Key players in the world of gentrification, housing shortages and urban development shed light on the issue.
Alumna Sarah Luo and Bachelor student Simona Boscardin accepted the trophy in Munich's Filmtheater am Sendlinger Tor and presented their project at the New Talent Forum.
