This thesis examines how systematic methods of visual communication can be applied to narratively decode archival material, with the intention of developing the theme of travel anew in a modern editorial format. It is based on travel reports and accompanying photographs by Jörg Roth, a writer for the «Münchner Abendzeitung» from 1981 to 2004.
