Diploma project “NEUNOI” in the spotlight
The diploma project “NEUNOI” by Thibaut Wenger and Narada Zürrer from the Industrial Design department sets an example for sustainable children’s shoes. They now speak about their work in Meter Magazine and in the new podcast episode “Hörpunkt Nachhaltigkeit”.
The “NEUNOI” children’s shoe is designed for children aged six to ten. The concept “NEUNOI” aims to keep children’s shoes in circulation for longer. To this end, Thibaut and Naradan have developed a subscription system in which the shoe that has become too small is sent back to production. Back in production, it is washed, repaired and returned to an ergonomically neutral condition. In this way, the shoes can easily be reused by another child. At the same time, the child whose shoes have become too small receives the matching successor model in a new size. More details and the full interview with Thibaut Wenger and Narada Zürrer can be found in Meter Magazine.
Additionally, Thibaut and Narada are part of the latest podcast episode “Hörpunkt Nachhaltigkeit”, in which they explain the importance of recycling in the context of “NEUNOI”. The basis for the development of the children’s shoes was the material “Kuori”, which among other things is suitable for the production of shoe soles. Conventional shoe sole materials wear out quickly due to the strong friction, creating harmful microplastic. Thanks to the biodegradable components of “Kuori”, the problem of harmful microplastic is avoided. Especially children’s shoes, which wear out quickly due to a lot of movement, benefit from this environmentally friendly solution. The whole story and even more exciting information can be listened to in the podcast of ZHdK’s Sustainability Dossier.
