Diploma project «Self-Determined» at the Zurich Design Weeks
Luis Praxmarer & Lars Ziegler's diploma project «Self-Determined» from the Bachelor's Major in Interaction Design will be exhibited as a «Newcomer» project in the Design Lounge as part of the Zurich Design Weeks. The Design Lounge takes place from 12 to 29 September at the Museum für Gestaltung, Ausstellungsstrasse 60. Five outstanding diploma projects from leading Swiss design universities will be exhibited in the «Newcomer» category. The exhibition will open with a vernissage on 12 September 2024.
«Selbstbestimmt» or «self-determined» is a project for improved democratic participation of blind people. At the moment, it is still impossible for them to vote autonomously due to the lack of haptic features on the voting documents.
Together with visually impaired people, Luis Praxmarer & Lars Ziegler developed a solution to this problem in co-design workshops. The result is a voting kit that combines a smartphone app with a haptic coordinate system. This makes it possible to identify, orient and complete the voting documents autonomously. With the methods used in the workshops, we explored new ways in which designers can work together with blind or visually impaired people.
