Winners ZHdK Förderpreis Design and SDA Award 2022
The winners of the ZHdK Förderpreis Design and the SDA Award 2022 have been announced.
As part of the Bachelor's and Master's theses, the Department of Design at the ZHdK awards annual promotional prizes to graduates, endowed with CHF 5,000 per course of study. The award is intended to support the prize-winners in their further studies and to make outstanding work visible.
This year the following projects were awarded:
- Förderpreis Bachelor Design: «Gegenwelten» by Elay Leuthold, specialisation Cast / Audiovisual Media. Different opinions, different values - coexistence is a major challenge in today's society. In the three-part doc web series "Gegenwelten", each episode confronts two people from Generation Z with their differences and their commonalities in matters of sexuality, religion or equality.
- Förderpreis Master Design: «Speaking Bread – Beziehungen jenseits der Materialität»by Carolina Márquez Bernard, Visual Communication. The multidisciplinary research project "Speaking Bread" focuses on the relationships between human and non-human actors that arise in the process of artisanal and traditional bread baking. It questions how we interact with the material world and also highlights the importance of preserving artisanal ways of working.
- Special Mention Förderpreis Bachelor Design: «Psychotic Bathtub - The Story of an Escalating Mind. And Ducks» by Natasha Sebben, Game Design. "Psychotic Bathtub" deals with a psychotic illness in a very small space. We find ourselves as Ophelia in our bathtub and are able to interact with the environment: argue with our rubber duck, drink wine, put in more bathwater. Each of our interactions threatens to escalate and has consequences: We drown the duck, the wine turns to poison, the bathroom is flooded. In this way, we as players:inside move through the disorder towards different ends.
In addition to the Design Award, the SDA Award was also presented again in 2022. Two theses from each of the Bachelor's programmes Industrial Design, Trends & Identity and Interaction Design were nominated and judged for the "Bachelor Award" of the Swiss Design Association (SDA). The prize is endowed with CHF 500.
SDA-Award 2022: «Neurospot» by Linus Maurmann (ZHdK, Industrial Design) and Janosch Imhof (ETHZ). "Neurospot" is a brainwave measuring device for the therapy of sleep disorders. The device is worn during rest and continuously measures energy potentials in the auditory canal triggered by brain activity. In this way, the course of sleep is reconstructed in real time and, if necessary, influenced by acoustic stimulation.
All the works nominated for the ZHdK Promotion Prize and the SDA Award can be viewed on the website of the Department of Design.
Congratulations to all the award winners.
