ZHdK students and alumni win internationally renowned book design competitions
Students and alumni of the subject area of Visual Communication have been awarded prizes in the internationally renowned competitions «Best Book Design from all over the World» and the «Jan Tschichold Award». The «Best Book Design from all over the World» prizes are awarded annually by the Buchkunst foundation and honour outstanding achievements in book design worldwide. The «Jan Tschichold Award» has been awarded since 1997 by the Swiss Federal Office of Culture (BAK) to individuals, groups or institutions for excellent achievements in book design.
An international jury of experts consisting of Jianping He (China/Germany), Alexandra Stender (Germany), Päivi Helander (Finland), Scott Vander Zee (USA) and Isidora Nikolić (Serbia) has selected the winners of this year's «Best Book Design from around the World» competition. The jury's highest award is the «Goldene Letter», one «Gold Medal», two «Silver Medals», five «Bronze Medals» and five «Honorary Appreciations» are also awarded.
The following ZHdK students and alumni are among the prize winners:
- Goldene Letter: Jana Sofie Liebe for «Walking as Research Practice».
- Silver Medals: Ladina Döring (ZHdK) in collaboration with Teo Schifferli and Lou Rais for «Press Paintings».
- Bronze Medals: Michel Egger (ZHdK) with Bänziger Hug / Samuel Bänziger for «Die Rationalität des Baumeisterlichen».
In addition, ZHdK alumna Larissa Kasper, together with Samuel Bänziger, Rosario Florio and Olivier Hug was awarded the Jan Tschichold Award 2024 for their publishing house «Jungle Books». The prize is awarded by the Swiss Federal Office of Culture (BAK) for outstanding contributions to book design.
