Current’s Wanderers

Planktonic microorganisms are essential to global ecological balance, yet their relevance remains largely unknown to most, partly because of their radically different environment compared to that of humans, which makes mutual awareness difficult.

Using water as both a physical and conceptual element of connection, the installation expands the user’s bodily capacity to interface with a body of water by allowing access to an otherwise unreachable scale of life.

Within a transposed microscopic portion of Lake Greifensee, people can observe, listen to, touch and engage with real-time planktonic organisms through the currents that carry them.
